Summer 2020 is here and though life looks a bit different than summer’s past, there’s still plenty of opportunities to show off your personal style and get in on the trends that I’m seeing this season. Even though I am still working from home and not getting out and about as often this summer or going on a few trips I had planned, it’s still important to me to still get dressed up and wear clothes that make me feel confident and ready to take on the day. If you’re looking for a few new pieces to update your summer wardrobe, here’s a few of my favorite styles for this season.
When it comes to everyday style when the temperatures rise and the sun is shining, dresses are my go-to uniform. Cozy t-shirt dresses, soft shift dresses, and sleeveless swing dresses are all I need to feel comfortable, put together, and ready for work or play. I am loving the pleated trend for dresses and tops this season, and the navy blue option from Express is one of my favorite pieces I added to my closet this season.
My choice of tops in the summer involves flowy & lightweight fabrics, romantic details, and classic silhouettes. A few closet staples for summer are always a classic crewneck tee and a denim jacket. These two pieces pair perfectly together and can be worn with midi skirts or your favorite shorts. I have also been living in and loving bodysuits for Spring and Summer this year. Paired with a skirt, shorts, or your favorite cropped denim, bodysuits are the perfect way to get that chic, tucked in look without a worry of bunching or your top coming untucked.
If you’re ready to show off a fresh pedi, or one that you did yourself at home, summer is one of my favorite seasons for footwear. I love getting my toes out in a cute pair of wedges, slip-ons, or strappy sandals. The platform sandals from Steve Madden are my favorite style again this summer, with a variety of colors and prints to choose from, these are a staple for me. I love the animal prints, as well as sandal options with rhinestone or metallic detailing.
If I’m going to be honest, jumpsuits and rompers were not always my top choice. I was afraid of how they’d fit my body, and if I’d be able to find ones that I felt comfortable and confident in. After some time spent debating, I’m happy to say that I have found ones that I love and make me feel amazing. If there’s one thing you can take away from this is to not let any preconceived notions or made-up standards prevent you from trying out a trend or wearing something that you want to. As long as you are wearing something that makes you feel good and happy, that’s all that matters.
I’ve packed up my pants for the summer, and have replaced them with gorgeous skirts and shorts for the hot days ahead. I love all of the beautiful color options for flowy, midi skirts this season, and have added a few bright pieces to my wardrobe. If I’m not rocking a skirt, then you can find me in a pair of crops, wide-leg pants, or pull-on shorts in a lightweight fabric and light color. A few staples for summer to me is always a pair of white jeans and your favorite pair of denim shorts or crops. This is the perfect time to play with some hits of destruction on your shorts or crops for a laidback, casual look.
I love adding the perfect accessories to my outfits to tie it all together, add a pop of color or shine, and have a little bit of fun. This season, I’ve chosen classic gold pieces with chain links, shell details, or colored gemstones. For purses, I’m all about the see-thru options this season, and have found a few ones that I love. Scarves and wraps are a perfect way to add a lightweight layer to your look when there’s a breeze or the sun goes down.
For me, my style is always about feeling comfortable but also looking putting together. That’s why I’m typically rocking a dress or jumpsuit when the days get hot. In a great floral print, my signature stripes, and a lightweight fabric, you can’t go wrong with a beautiful summer dress. When I’m wearing a go-to summer dress, have a denim jacket in tow, layered on my favorite gold purse and accessories, and slipped on my strappy sandals, I feel my most confident. Even if I’m just spending time at home. What’s your go-to summer ensemble?
